7 Kitchen Trends We’re Loving Right Now
We’re all spending more time at home these days, so it’s natural to re-evaluate our personal spaces to make them as welcoming and comfortable as possible. A kitchen is the hub of the home, a family’s command center where many activities take place, so it should strike a harmonious balance of livability and style.
As a custom home builder, we’ve helped many families design their dream kitchens over the years. And as you may have guessed, there’s quite a bit that goes into a well-designed kitchen space, like layout, materials, color, lighting, and appliances. Some of the most memorable kitchens we’ve designed incorporate classic and more modern features, so we’re highlighting some of our favorite trends in the kitchen that are here to stay.
Statement Backsplashes
A backsplash presents a wonderful opportunity to showcase your own unique style. Modern, rustic, traditional, cozy, and anything in between - a thoughtful kitchen backsplash can take you there. And it’s a great time to play with color, pattern, texture, and placement. Add it above the range, between counters and cabinets, or to an entire wall. There are so many possibilities to use a kitchen wall treatment for a cohesive look.

Island Pendant Lighting
We can’t get enough of great lighting! It’s a design workhorse that’s not only functional but can set the tone and mood of a room in a nuanced or statement-making way. It’s the ideal balance of form and function, and placement is just as important as the fixture. We’re especially loving the sculptural pendant look over a kitchen island that provides work lighting and a stylish focal point.

Large Center Islands
It’s no secret that a kitchen is the hub of the home, so it makes perfect sense they should offer opportunities for a variety of functions. But it’s also important that they look amazing, too. Oversized center islands can do double duty between meal prep and as a place for the kids to spread out their homework. They’re also big enough for hosting and entertaining, serving as a place for hors d'oeuvres, buffet-style serving, or a DIY cocktail bar.

Two-Toned Cabinets
More and more home buyers are opting for this newer, fun trend. Two-toned cabinets break up the monochromatic sightline and add more visual interest to the space. It’s also an ideal choice for those who have a difficult time selecting cabinet colors – choose two instead of one!

Bold Color
And speaking of color, it’s getting a bold and bright update in the kitchen, and we’re here for it! Blue, green, and even yellow hues are complementing or replacing their neutral-toned counterparts, and it’s a refreshing and unexpected way to express your personal style in your new home.

Farmhouse Sinks
They’re all over Instagram and for good reason – a farmhouse sink is a lovely trend that’s here to stay. Deep, sleek, and oh so chic, they’re a versatile kitchen necessity that works in a number of styles.

Black is Back
While we’ll always love a crisp white kitchen, we’re pretty excited that matte black is making a comeback in a big way. Bold and full of beautiful drama, black never goes out of style and makes a real statement in the kitchen, from cabinets and backsplashes, to light fixtures and finishings.
