It’s almost hard to believe. It’s December 2022, and now we’re headed into 2023. We can’t be the only ones who feel like 2020 just happened, right? It’s been an eventful year for us here at Authentic Custom Homes, and we’re sure it’s been an eventful year for you, too. But just because a year is ending doesn’t mean that we’re slowing down, even for a second. We’re so glad you’re here, and we’ve decided that on our last blog post of the year, it might be important to offer some advice for the new year.

This January and beyond, we’re resolving to bring you the same level of excellence that you’ve come to expect from our homes. We will continue to treat you, our customers, as our top priority. Those are our resolutions, but what about yours? Next month is the perfect time to take a look around and ask yourself what you’d like to improve. Nothing is ever perfect, and we have some ideas how to make this new year the best year ever. So, read on, because there are a few ACH Resolutions that we think you should you complete.

It’s easy to get used to mediocrity, to the things that you aren’t quite satisfied with. Sometimes, the things you’d like to change are so baked into your personal routine that you hardly even realize you want to change them in the first place. So, for our first resolution, we’d like you to take a look around your home and ask yourself: “Am I really satisfied?” Surely there are things you’d want to change around your home. Our homes are our safe place, and no one wants to replace a lightbulb or start painting the guest room after a long day at work. After a while these small tasks can pile up, and you can find yourself settling into a house you never even wanted in the first place. So as the clock strikes midnight this New Year’s Eve, ask yourself if your house really feels like your home. If not, don’t worry, it’s never too early in the year to get started.

It might seem a little late to make a list, but this isn’t one Santa will be checking. This is a list for you! Remember when we challenged you to take a look around and ask yourself if you’re really happy in your home? Well, now we need to get granular. Specific. Why? Because it isn’t enough to feel unsatisfied. If you’re thinking about making a big change, you need to know why you’re making the change. So, grab a pen and paper, go around your home, and start jotting down the things you’re less than happy with. Perhaps the backyard is too small for your new dog. Or maybe you’re needing more garage space for that new car. Or maybe it’s just that your tastes have changed, and you’re not a fan of your closed floor plan anymore. That’s all okay. Because now that you know your problems, you can get to work on fixing them. Next, make a list of how you’d like to change your home for the better. Do you want modern light fixtures, a 3-car garage, or how about exposed beams in your living room? Let your imagination run wild. Once finished, you’ll have a list of what you don’t want, and what you do! The legwork can begin.

Now that you’ve got your list of must-haves and must-nots, you can rank them in an order from most to least important. Decide what you can’t live without and put that at the top, like a deluxe kitchen perfect for entertaining or a soaker tub perfect for unwinding. Decide what features you can compromise on and put them at the bottom. If you’re struggling to decide where to put something on the list, compare it directly to something else and ask yourself which one you want more. Suddenly, you’ve created a neatly organized, perfect wish list. This can act as guidelines for when you want to make the move to the home that you’ve always dreamed of. And this dream can come true.

As you’re considering upgrading your home, it’s also a good idea to take the opportunity to declutter. We often forget how many useless knick-knacks and miscellaneous junk we compile over the years. And most of the time, it’s unintentional. Our houses are filled with ill-fitting clothes, unwanted gifts and broken gadgets that we simply forget to throw away. Well, now is the time, and it’s beneficial for two reasons. One, it’s always nice to start the year with a clean slate. And two, this will save you trouble in the long run. If you decide to move to the dream home you outlined in your list, you can save yourself a good deal of time and money during the long moving process. Because, after all, less junk means less hassle as you work to pack your home into a moving truck!
